Invader at MOCA “Art in the Streets”
As part of its latest exhibition “Art in the Streets,” the MOCA has included several pieces from the French street artist Invader. Inspired by the characters and low-resolution graphics of classic arcade games from the late ’70s and ’80s (particularly Space Invaders), he began invading cities himself, pasting his colorful mosaics made of weather-resistant tile on buildings, walls, bridges and other fixtures in cities all over the world. Starting with his first piece in Paris back in 1998, Invader has since reached London, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and even Bangkok. It’s safe to assume that now, he can also add the MOCA to his long list of conquests.
